L4DERP the comic!

Yes so...after playing a bit too much I have started to remember funny things that happened to me in game, and I wanted to illustrate it by...actually ILLUSTRATING IT.

Okay so; here's the comic I used I guess...3 hours on...alot of work...but not.I got lazy.
And also another portrait of a otherwise favoured character form l4d2, Nick!

This one was more of a speed, not detailing way too much over my head...but that's kinda what I did anyways. The ref picture was bigger so this turned out bigger too in the end. Alot of light in here comparing it to the Ellis one, so this was a bit of a challenge to blend in everything nicely. Still the nose and lips and eyes seems kinda vague... Anyways, more l4d related things coming up soon!

L4d portraits, WIP and more!

Wow. On a serious l4d(2) roll theese days, the game has gotten to me for real. So I decided to do more portraits. I'm currently working on Nick. I traced the lines briefly on Ellis for practise, rest is done by observing ref image, and blending colors over and over using mostly basic photoshop brushes, some customized, but not important in theese images.
Also did a work in progress "tutorial". And a quick hunter in SAI.
More coming up soon!

Sketches 4: Foxes

Time for another Sketches series! This time I wanted to do more Don Bluth inspired sketches, featuring foxes. Mostly inspired from his fox from his animation DVD's which I purchased a while ago. Trying to form a cartoony style of my own, with exegarrated (spelling..) features to shape in a character, and guve him/her personalities of their own.
All theese were drawn in SAI (which is a great program to doodle in, and create characters with clean steady lines, and it somehow makes them look more cartoony too)

Alchemy tribute!

I have taken a good liking to this free prgram theese last 2 days. It doesn't have a undo button, or eraser or anythign like that..It's the ultimate training for any artist! I was highly reliable on erasing and editing, but here it's no turning back. You just have to go with it and try to work over accidents as you go. It's so much fun, and it's a challenge too! There are alot of tools and effects to combine, you can even use your own voice to change the brush strokes. I highly reccomond this program to people with alot of art blocks, speed painters, or anyone who wants to try a challenge :)

http://al.chemy.org/

I have maybe drawn around 5-6 speeds allready, I recorded one of them just today. (Lasts 17 minutes cause the speed up version lagged...Fraps destroys alot of FPS :(

Enjoy some of my alchemy works; more will definitively be up soon!

A whole lot of images... First two on top + bottom drawn TODAY. I'm on a kill--drawing spree :) Trying out different techniques with coloring. I usualy have two main colors in my art, but I wanted to take it a few notches up like in ther first image, and the deer image.

First image was a comission for someone on furaffinity :)

Lion concept and finished piece

A quick lion thing concept which I ended up in not liking cause of the colors and lightning..oh well it's a part of the practice!
And a final piece, inspired by Deepholm in world of warcraft.

Animal concept: Lyrhunt

Something really quick... trying to get a hold of some imaginary anatomy here, + trying out a new coloring style :)

This is a Lyrhunt, a futuristic beast related to dogs and ...idk platypus just to make it interesting.

Another artwork

For some reason, my animation test was rejected on this site, and couldn't upload...so I'll just post this thing I did half an hour ago :)

The opossum character from the animation test!...in the winter!!... A quick sketch and sloppy coloring image done in less than an hour just to unwind a bit from all the stress...Enjoy~

Animation project so far

The project so far! Around 10 hours all in all... drawn over 40 new keyframes, redone the whole animation once, outlined around 40 of the so far nearly 60-70 drawings... and it lasted almost 3 seconds! Alot of frames to draw still..(around 70 more + outlining + coloring....) .rendered it in Quicktime format using Adobe Photoshop (and the animation tool to select each frame)

Still alot to do...I should return to my work!

Animation in progress!

Long time since last update! I'm in a hurry with making a very short animation (only in adobe, put together in premiere or something...) And this is gonna take a while for me to finish since I have to draw almost 200 pictures to make it last 4-5 seconds or so...It's alot of work! I allready used 4-5 hours with testing it in premiere and drawing the background and 42 drawings of the character. Unfortunately, I had to START OVER because I was not happy with the results of the keyframes. They were all different from each other, the size of the ears, fingers etc,was too much to fix. Also with the head angles concidering that I did NOT make a character sheet beforr I went into the animation....One of the biggest things you should never ever do /cry
So I spent a few afternoons drawing the same character over and over and over in different positions and angles.
I started over again and have made it to 4 keyframes so far. I am gonna try finish it before april ends, but it's alot of work!! Maybe I'm gonna start over with something else which I have been imagining in my head for a few months now....Just a quickie! Here is a screenshot from the new animation project (the one I restarted)

You can see some other keyframes in it too which I use as onion skin :)

Ref sheet: Bulbasaur

A ref sheet for a bulbasaur. Going to do some animation work later on and I'm trying to draw things from different angles so I can animate more in-betweens without getting discouraged. Short animations MAY be displayed on this blog :)
More later when I have practised animation. I work entirely on my own, and it might take time for me to post animation work here.
More coming soon~

WIP 2 Lava BG

Another progress post. I wanted to try do a quickie with my favourite details, red colors and shiny glowy lava! I started out with just a shape in my head, mostly the background shape... I eventually added more shading and formed a lightsource. I also wanted some kind of creature in the background, but I wasn't in the mood to work on something big and scary so I drew something silly which looks like a combo of Totoro and the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland...with fire on it's horns :)
I never manage to tone down my image, I allways want is super colorful with ALOT of contrast!

Experiments

RED BLUE EXPLODE!

Some experimental crap...I'm not pleased about how this turned out, but I'm posting it anyways. Lightning effects and liquify used!

Quickies 1

A couple of drawings done the recent days. The one with the ninetale-ish creature is one of the three tryout images for this art school I'm trying to get into. The pig is also a tryout image,I did a more cozy style on that one. The third tryout image was the Horned toad in the swamp, from yesterday. I also have a background done yesterday as a practise :)
Around 2 hours on the top picture, an hour + on the BG practise and roughly 40 minutes on the pig.

WIP to Finish: Horned toad thing

This is a huge one! A 2 hour + (?) painting of a fantasy creature in a swampy looking area... I am trying to not go wild with my layer modes and lightning this time, I want a dark looking scenery with a monster in it.... with some exaggarated lightning :)
Here is a step by step mini tutorial!
(Used alot of custom brushes, most from the guy behind http://idrawgirls.com/ )

STEP 1

I'm drawing a easy fast 5-10 min sketch of a monster which I have been picturing in my head...
 STEP 2

I'm blocking out the shadows as I picture it by now + adding base color which covers the WHOLE creature.

 STEP 3
I'm starting to picture the background, and I start to block out the main shapes I see in my head... I use a custom brush for the water to add a sharp effect.
STEP 4
I started doing alot of details in the background. I set the creature on invisible so I could shape out the background. Alot of brushes were used here to create a dirty atmosphere. Brushes, textures and brush sizes/strokes matters alot! I also erase by using custom brushes, like in the opening to the forest. Used the same brush on the water to create shiny reflection.
 STEP 5
I started to add more shading to the creature, and I added alot of texturized effects on it with custom brushes. I also added more depth in the water where it stands. Some grass in the foreground is there too, I added some water sparkles on them since this s a wet area.
 STEP 6
I added some frog like dots on it's body, and a custom brush with shell effects. I "outlined" the shells with a wet reflecting look. Highlight from the background is important to make the character's shapes pop!
 STEP 7
Now I'm done with highlighting, the background and everything. Only coloring left! I make a new layer with OVERLAY mode, and start out with two colors, saturated brown and lushed pink. I use the gradient tool to easily define the base lightning, as seen in the background.
 STEP 8
I create another layer with overlay, and pain ontop of the other one. It gives it a stronger color. I chose shock red for base color (everything gets darker with overlay mode, so you have to push the color limit!:)
 STEP 9
Now I've done something tricky. I made another layer with HUE mode, and I chose a light blue color, and painted over the "master shadow" part (the part where there is most shadow on the creature) and I had it on very low opacity 25%~
I also made a normal layer and painted the eyes more yellow so it stood out more that before. On the same normal mode layer, I drew a purple-ish outline on the darkest side of the creature to make the details pop out more.
 STEP10
Now, I made another layer, and I actually forgot which mode it was set to but Overlay/Color dodge or so works fine...and I took a soft airbrush and painted the light part red, so it would glow more.I then painted over the creature so it would blend a bit with the lightning.
 STEP11
By now I have been experimenting alot with duplicating the merged layers, changing contrast and bightness, changed some of the colors with Color Balance, and layer modes. I also painted in more colors in the background, but not too much since the monster and backlightning is the main things to focus on in this picture.Drawing straight lines and blurring them is nice for rainy scenes!

And after roughly 2 hours + I'm done! The key is to be inspired, look trough tutorials, have good mood music in the background and have PATIENCE! Experience wth drawing small conceptual backgrounds on a 300x300 canvas, so it won't be too big. Experiment and play with lightning, contrast and colors. Get some custom brushes and find inspiration! I recommend buying tutorials from this place . For free tutorials and awesome paintings, please check out this site!
